Health score in ARR forecasting represents a composite signal that translates what a customer is doing and how they’re feeling about the product into a probability of renewal and possible expansion. It combines multiple indicators: how the customer is using the product (usage depth, feature adoption, frequency), satisfaction signals (feedback, sentiment, NPS), recent support interactions (volume, resolution speed, escalation), and signals around renewal likelihood (contract end dates, payment history, signs of commitment). The purpose is to turn these varied signals into a forecast-adjustment tool: a rising health score suggests a healthy renewal with potential upsell, while a falling score flags churn risk or a delayed renewal, guiding you to adjust ARR projections and prioritize risk mitigation or expansion outreach.

This concept isn’t about profitability, onboarding progress, or just the number of support tickets. Profitability is a financial metric separate from customer health. Onboarding status alone doesn’t capture ongoing usage or risk, and ticket count doesn’t reflect how those tickets are resolved or how the account will renew. The value of a health score comes from its breadth and the way it updates forecasts as new signals arrive, helping you forecast more accurately and act more proactively with accounts.
